It was great to see brand-new high quality homes for affordable rent being handed over to happy, smiling tenants in Helsby thanks to Weaver Vale Housing Trust.

The £1.6 million development transformed the former sheltered housing site in Springfield Avenue into two and three-bedroom homes.

One of the best comments was from a mother moving in with her five-year-old son. She described where was before as ‘just somewhere to live’ whereas this was ‘a home’.

I also met a couple with three young daughters, including a new-born, who thanked me for helping them find this new property after their former landlady decided to sell-up at Christmastime, turning their world upside down.

They said moving into Springfield Avenue was ‘like winning the Lottery for us!’.
